Project 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera |
Engine and transaxle removed for larger 3.5 liter pistons and cylinders, twin spark plug ignition system/twin ignition coil modification, and the transaxle will be receiving an updated differential. The intake manifold will be Extrude Honed for better flow. |
911 Turbo brakes modified to fit the 911 Carrera 16" wheels. |
To compliment the larger Turbo brake calipers and rotors, a 911 Turbo brake master cylinder was installed. Otherwise, the brakes would have been too sensitive with the Carrera master cylinder. |
Restored engine bay with a 911 Turbo firewall insulation pad. The Turbo insulation pad is thinner and lighter, so it's less likely to sag down like the heavier Carrera insulation pad. New factory Porsche wiring was installed in the engine bay. Much of the wiring runs from the front fuse box to the engine bay (this is no easy task). Also, a second decklid support mount was added (circled in red) on the right side to properly hold up the Carrera tail-equipped decklid. |
Porsche Twin Fire ignition system (circled in red) for the twin spark plug per cylinder engine modification. The system is mounted under the driver's seat away from the heat of the engine bay. |
911 Turbo brakes with the 911 Carrera 16" wheel fitted. |
Original brake caliper. |
Engine cases align bored and ultrsonically cleaned. |
Assembly of the engine with rebalanced crankshaft, new oil pump, and new drive chains and helical gears. |
New custom fabricated 98mm Mahle 10.5:1 dual ignition pistons, Total Seal piston rings, and Nickasil cylinders. |
Fresh 3.5 liter 911 engine rebuild almost complete. |
Intake system and distributors installed. |
Carrera Porsche engine completed. The output is just under 300 HP, and the torque is 310 DIN. |
